Dakwaan Hasutan kerana DEB
March 14, 2008
Salam,
Just a short one.
Does anyone have any idea how this statement(roughly) is seditious and full of racial sentiment?
We want to abolish DEB(NEP) as it has breed cronyism and ineffectiveness and replace it with a policy that is more just and based on merit.
Notes:
1. NEP is the policy which gives specialty to Malay to reduce the gap between races.
2. Several believe it has been used to enrich just a few and leaving poorer people of all races behind.
3. This news is on UTUSAN today. 3/15 issue.
4. Oh, and they say Anwar berdolak-dalik on the DEB issue and never tell people what Anwar really said. How stupid is that?
Updates on Happenings in Malaysia
March 14, 2008
Assalamu’alaikum,
Some updates that you might want to take notes on:
UMNO hosted a protest at Komtar building after the statement by Guan Eng on the abolishment of DEB. About probably 1000-2000 people were present with more onlookers. This time it’s a usual peaceful protest (minus the water cannon).
The protest was done as the UMNO leaders are worried that the Malays in Penang will be oppressed by the new government as the new CM is from DAP. I am quite pleased with the reaction by Guan Eng which respects their right to protest as long as it is peaceful. It is their right anyway to express their concern about the Malays. What puzzles me is what have they been doing before. Maybe not all, but a lot of Malays in Penang has already been moved away from cities by the increasing cost of living. Why don’t they protest before?
Ironically, the same day, Guan Eng made a meeting with 21 Islamic NGOs to assure them that the Muslims in Penang will never be left out by the new administration. This has been accepted with pleasure by the NGOs including Jemaah Islah Malaysia (JIM). Guan Eng also commented on the rumors that Azan will not be permissable anymore in Penang. And as you might expect, the statement is far deviating from the truth. Guan Eng also asked for the UMNO representative should have made an appointment or something to express their concern officially to the administration besides showing how much support they have concerning the matters by demonstrating. He was actually puzzled as no memorandums and such has been handed to him following the demo.
Personally, i think Guan Eng has been really smart in handling the racial tense being provoked lately. It’s still too early to judge but i did have my trust on his leadership increases.
On another update in Selangor, PAS admitted of meeting with Khir Toyo!
This might come as a surprise to some but there’s nothing to be worried about. Dr Hassan Ali assured that it’s nothing about party cross-over or joining the Barisan to form a government. He stated that the meeting was just to assure that the Selangor’s opposition’s voice will still be heard and their views will still be heard for the sake of the people. This comes as they are worried that UMNO in Selangor will result in violence in expressing their uneasiness with the change in administration by the Barisan Alternatif or Rakyat or whatever. (This can be seen in the posters during a demo in front of the SUK building that’s filled with provocative statement, in my oppinion).
For me, this is good in one way that they are proactive in ensuring the stability of the Selangor’s citizens and pacifying some unpatient people from being rebellious. However, it would have been smarter if they invited other parties’ members to the meeting for the discussion. This would erases some fear from people that still have some doubt on PAS commitment on the new government. This act would also be more respectful to the new government which is consisting PAS, keadilan, and DAP and not only PAS.
These new development is for me, quite positive with some glitches. All of all, best wishes for the new governments and i really hope the ones who are worried, be patient and don’t have too much of sangka buruk on them. Give them a chance and criticize them, constructively and not just point fingers and blame.
Have a good Weekend!
Wassalam
